Leeds-based social media star Yasmin Uddin is helping the NHS in Leeds launch a campaign to raise awareness of the local mental health services available to young people.
Yammy, as she is known to millions of online fans, is part of the latest awareness campaign for MindMate, the dedicated mental health and emotional wellbeing website in Leeds for young people, parents and professionals who work with young people.
She has created a message of support on her TikTok channel, which has more than one million followers, promoting mental health services for young people across the city. The campaign, which runs until mid-January, will also see MindMate promoted on Snapchat, Facebook and Instagram.
Dr Jane Mischenko, Lead Commissioner for Children and Maternity at NHS Leeds Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “The festive season can be a difficult time of year for many young people, particularly as such an unusual and challenging year comes to an end. It’s important that young people are aware of the support that continues to be available to them when things are feeling overwhelming. We’re delighted to have Yammy on board to help us with this.
“The MindMate website (www.mindmate.org.uk/) has a wealth of resources that young people can use for support and advice, as well as directing them to local services. We’ve also set up a page specifically around how you can take care of your mental wellbeing during the coronavirus outbreak. We know it’s not easy to talk about mental health, so we want to encourage young people to have open conversations about their wellbeing, and to reach out for help when they need it this Christmas.”
