A short film made to celebrate the 70th birthday of the NHS highlights some of the innovations that are helping to improve the health and wellbeing of Leeds residents.
The film, ‘Developing good communities of practice’, presented by newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky, is part of a special news and current affairs-style collaboration between NHS England, NHS Leeds Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and ITN Productions celebrating 70 years of the NHS. As well as looking back at the achievements and breakthroughs within the health service it explores the opportunities for future innovation and development.
‘Developing good communities of practice’ showcases just some examples of great work happening across Leeds, with a strong focus on how digital technology is supporting people in managing their own health.
The film highlights how at Street Lane practice they’ve reduced dermatology referrals by 70% by using technology that allows specialist GPs to provide their expertise to colleagues. It also shows how the Leeds Care Record helps to connect all the different professionals throughout the health and social care sector to communicate more easily.
The film shows how the CCG works closely with patients and communities to help people better manage their own health and wellbeing. For example, the award-winning MindMate website, is a mental health resource created by young people for young people, supported by the CCG.
The Live Well Leeds learning café is also showcased in the film and shows how it has made a huge difference to the local community. At the café people can come from the local community and talk about loneliness, mental health issues and living with long-term health conditions. They get support and advice from fellow sufferers and health and care professionals.
Philomena Corrigan, Chief Executive at NHS Leeds CCG says, “We are delighted to be a part of this collaboration with ITN Productions and NHS England for this film. It is the perfect way to celebrate 70 years of the NHS, highlight the achievements of the NHS and look to the future. We are particularly proud of the Leeds projects that the film highlights. They show how we are using digital technology is a real innovative way to make a real difference to patient care.”
