A quarter of million people (251,050) in Leeds have now had their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Simon Cluderay, Senior Manager and Operational Lead for the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme for Leeds, said: “Hitting the quarter of million mark is a fantastic achievement for the city of Leeds. We are driven to get as many people as possible vaccinated against COVID-19, as this is our best hope for returning to normal life.
“I want to thank every single person who has helped with the planning and delivery of the COVID-19 vaccine in Leeds. This includes staff working in the NHS, Leeds City Council, GP practices, pharmacies, the universities as well as our community and voluntary sector partners, who are all part of our team Leeds approach. We know the importance of partnership working, as this is the best way we can continue to protect all those eligible for the vaccine.
“Staff and volunteers have gone over and beyond with the COVID-19 vaccine these past few months. They have worked incredibly flexibly, working longer hours, at weekends and in new roles which they’ve have had to adapt to in a short space of time. Staff and volunteers have done this to protect those who are most vulnerable to the virus and to protect our families and communities.
“We’ve had a really good uptake of the vaccine so far but we are continuing to look at ways we can make it as easy as possible for people to get their vaccinations in Leeds. This includes running pop-up clinics to help encourage uptake in local communities, such as the weekly clinic at the Bilal Centre every Wednesday during March in Harehills.
“I’m so proud to be part of team Leeds. We will continue with this positive attitude and continue to vaccinate as many people as we can.
“If you’ve been invited to have your vaccination but haven’t had it yet, I’d encourage you to do so as this will help stop the virus. If you’re concerned about the vaccine, please speak to a healthcare professional for trusted and reliable information.”
