Emotional health

What do we want to happen?

We will support the emotional and mental wellbeing of women who are pregnant and ensure that those who experience any emotional problems during and after their pregnancy are well supported and offered the best care.

What have we done so far?

We have worked with organisations and people with experience of emotional health difficulties in pregnancy to develop a new way of working  – a new pathway

We also have short, easy to read versions of the pathway:

One minute guide for professionals

Pathway on a page

This is aimed at staff so they know which services are available in Leeds to support women and their partners at each stage of pregnancy and beyond. A guide to these services has been set out on the MindWell website so you can see what help is available – www.mindwell-leeds.org.uk/baby

We have put some videos and information into the Baby Buddy App which all women and families in Leeds can access, about emotional health issues, to help you know what to expect and where to get support from.

A new group, with people from lots of different organisations across Leeds, is meeting to agree how we can work together to improve emotional health services for pregnant women and women who have given birth, and their families.

What are we doing next?

We will launch an animation and some pictures and stories, which have been developed with women and families who have experience of emotional health issues throughout pregnancy. This aims to make it easier for new parents to speak out and get the right support.

We will continue to work with you and partners, to make sure that your views are reflected in all the work we do in this area.

We will use training to improve the knowledge of staff around these issues and how to best support people.
