Who can get the COVID-19 vaccine

The NHS is currently offering the COVID-19 vaccine to people most at risk from coronavirus.

In England, the vaccine is being offered in some hospitals and pharmacies, at local vaccination centres run by GPs and at larger vaccination centres. More centres are opening all the time.

Please visit the NHS website to see who the vaccine is being given to.

The order in which people will be offered the vaccine is based on advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI).

A vaccination programme of this size and scale will still take some time to roll out in full but we want to assure you that there is enough vaccination for everyone and no one will be forgotten, and like the rest of the NHS we are working to offer vaccines to everyone in the priority groups.

Please don’t be worried if you or a family member is in one of the other priority groups but hasn’t heard anything so far. You might know others in one of the other priority groups who have been invited for their vaccination already, but that does not mean that you or your relative are a lower priority.

The NHS is working hard to vaccinate as many people in this group as quickly as possible and many more people will be invited in. This is only the start of the vaccination programme and it will take some time to work through everyone.

Over 70s

If you are over 70, you can find out how you can book an appointment. For all other priority groups, you need to wait for your invitation from the NHS.

Anyone aged 50 and over

Anyone aged 50 and over who has not been vaccinated is now being urged to respond to their recent invite to get their vaccine. You can book your appointment through the national booking system website.

Should anybody aged 50 and over want to wait to be called by their local GP vaccination service they are still able to do so. However, we strongly urge you not to contact your GP practice, you must wait for the GP vaccination service to get in touch with you.
