We know people forget things, cancelling GP appointments being one of them. Remember to cancel your appointment if you don't need it.
Forgetting to cancel your unwanted GP appointment can prevent someone else from being seen – and in just six months last year, over 100,000 appointments were missed. If more people cancel their appointments when they don’t need them, we’ll reduce the number of no-shows and therefore improve GP access for patients and make better use of clinicians’ time.
So if you can’t make it, just let your doctor know – it’s as simple as that.
To help people remember to cancel their unwanted appointments, a team of purple morphsuit-clad “memory joggers” will pop up at different locations across Leeds throughout the summer, taking part in park runs, appearing at community events and jogging past busy footfall areas of the city. If you see one, say hello and take a selfie to share on social media with the hashtag #IWontForget to help raise awareness of the issue and be in with a chance of winning a wellbeing prize (please see below).
Three easy things you can do to help:
1. Cancel your appointment by giving your GP practice a call or by visiting their website.
2. Make sure all your details are up-to-date next time you visit your GP – that way they can send you text/email reminders.
3. Put the date in the diary or an alert in your phone so you definitely won’t forget!
Share to win
To be in with a chance of winning a wellbeing prize, just share a photo of the campaign message (pictured below) or a memory jogger on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #IWontForget. Winners will be announced in August 2018.
Help us spread the word! Just download, print and display our campaign materials in your local area to help encourage more people to cancel their unwanted doctor’s appointments.
