NHS Leeds CCG and Leeds City Council want to work the people of Leeds to co-produce a new model for community based mental health support in Leeds.
Brief description of project
NHS Leeds CCG and Leeds City Council (LCC) both commission community-based adult mental health services. Voluntary and community third sector providers deliver these services. They deliver important elements of the Leeds community mental health support offer. They can be split up into the themes:
- Crisis and urgent care support
- Supported accommodation
- Specialist community support
- Employment support
- Service user involvement
- Support for refugees and asylum seeker
We worked with the people of Leeds and service providers to review and improve these services. The aim is that they are more joined up and work better with one another; including mental health services provided directly by the NHS (such as Leeds and York Partnership Foundation Trust, LYPFT).
Who did we speak to?
We worked with 645 people, including current and past users of services, their families and/or carers as well as providers of services and their staff, and the general public.
What and how did we ask?
- In June, we hosted 6 workshops to explore the options for new ways of delivering these support services.
- In July, we hosted 6 focus groups for people to feedback on the proposals that were developed during the workshops.
- 6 surveys were also available for feedback on the proposals between July and August. These were available online, in paper, and EasyRead formats.
- On 10 September 2021, we hosted a feedback workshop on Zoom where we fed back on what people told us and what will happen next.
What did people tell us?
Across the 6 themes, people were generally supportive of all the proposals to enhance mental health support services in Leeds.
- People told us that they wanted to see the support services join up with statutory services to improve integration and efficient working.
- They also told us that communication and promotion of the support services available needed to improve.
- People suggested several ways to improve relationships with diverse communities.
