Antibody testing – general practice staff
We know some practices have been awaiting the process for how staff can access antibody testing. We are also aware that there remain concerns about the clinical validity and usefulness of this test.
A process has now been established across West Yorkshire with Leeds tests being accessed through Pinderfields.
The attached operational procedure and consent form have been circulated with the intention that the process is facilitated by individual practices testing their employees. It should be noted that this test is entirely voluntary.
We have been in contact with Pinderfields who can now begin to accept tests from Leeds practices – to support capacity at the lab we will need to stagger the roll out of these tests. Specific blood tubes are required for this purpose which we have ordered centrally. We will therefore need to release the supply of blood bottles and transport instructions in a staged approach. We are aware that tests in Leeds may be available in the next few weeks and some practices may wish to consider waiting until these arrangements are established.
If, however, you wish to access the testing, please confirm the number of blood bottles you require, the dates you plan to undertake staff testing and we will ensure the instructions are forwarded to you. We would encourage PCNs to work together to deliver this where possible.
